Nothing New Under The Sun - Single

“Nothing New Under the Sun” is from a collection of songs that I started in January 2022. The idea for that EP was to do something in the vain of McCartney’s first album. I wanted to record a minimalistic bedroom album and not overthink it. Fast forward a year and a half, and I had done exactly that.

It wasn’t until I saw an interview with Rick Rubin where I realized the problem: I was trying to conform my music to the idea in my head. “Be wary of pre-conceived ideas. Start broad minded. Completely open to possibilities.” With that, the song became easy to finish.

The track is about our attempts as songwriters to reinvent the wheel, but those “simple” songs hold up. On a deeper level, it’s about being open to trying something different, while being willing to fail. Everything has been done before, but when you put your own voice into something you create, it becomes new.
